Method
- Runs: every eave of the selected structures, chained where lines meet end to end. Rakes, ridges and flashing lines are never guttered.
- Corners: a turn of 10° or more takes a miter: outside where the run turns around the roof, inside at the foot of a valley. Each corner is counted once.
- Drainage: each facet drains to its own eaves in proportion to their length; a facet without one drains to the run nearest its lowest corner.
- Outlets: each run is split into equal stretches of at most 40 ft of gutter and 600 sq ft of roof, one outlet each, at a corner or run end where possible and over the ground rather than a lower roof.
- Routing: an outlet over a lower roof discharges onto it, and its water joins the runs that roof drains to.
- Drops: eave height less the ground, or less the lower roof below the outlet. A drop nobody measured is withheld, never zero.
- Capacity: drained plan area × design rainfall, against each system’s capacity table (plan sq ft at 1 in/hr) for the worst section and outlet.
Limitations
- Every figure comes from an invented house; drop heights are read from its model, not measured.
- Fascia condition, existing gutters, soffit depth and ground slope cannot be seen in the model.
- The capacity screen uses an illustrative rainfall intensity and capacity table. It is not a sizing calculation or a code check.
- No accuracy or certification is claimed; confirm runs, outlets and drops on site before ordering.
